The MT90 Orca Pro Supports Business Growth in German Retail Logistics Center

The retail brand Engbers, founded 75 years ago as a small family business, now operates over 300 stores and two online stores in Germany and Austria where customers can shop at their convenience. To support the significant business growth and increase in activity, Engbers opened its own logistics center.

Engbers was looking for a scalable solution to streamline its logistics operations, which included tasks such as picking, shipping preparation and inventory management. With an existing partnership with AISCI Ident, a leading IT and Auto-ID partner, the company sought advice on a comprehensive solution - and part of that solution included Newland's MT90 Orca Pro and Ndevor, the complementary MDM software.

From ERP to PDA

Previously, Engbers used its ERP system with stationary workstations to manage inventory, but after opening the logistics center, it became clear that the workload was too great. A new, mobile and flexible approach within the existing ERP software was needed to cope with the increasing workload.

AISCI Ident, which has been working with Newland AIDC EMEA for over ten years, advised and supported Engbers in finding a new logistics solution that could be used by employees for picking, inventory management and other warehouse tasks. Data collection terminals play a key role here.

Employees need a mobile computer with optimal connectivity features that can be used throughout the warehouse to complete tasks quickly and accurately. However, this is not the only requirement. Robust design, warranty, service and rapid deployment were also considered to meet the demanding working environment and support business growth.

Selection of a comprehensive scanning solution for logistics

AISCI Ident suggested several mobile computers from several different suppliers. Ultimately, the MT90 Orca Pro from Newland was chosen. As the project progressed, it became clear that a stationary screen was not required and that an ergonomic, mobile and lightweight design was preferred. The MT90 Orca Pro has a 5-inch screen on which a digital keyboard can be displayed and offers enough space for picking, inventory management and other logistics processes. The free mobile device management software Ndevor from Newland EMEA was chosen to manage the devices.

The employees continue to use the PDAs natively with AX-ERP, whereby a major advantage is that the connection could be solved via APP programming.

Newland AIDC EMEA supported further steps in testing and implementing the solution. They trained the employees of AISCI Ident and Engbers IT in the use of Ndevor. In addition, with the help of Sebastian Weides, Newland AIDC EMEA Senior Product Manager (PDA & CIT), the test device was successfully implemented, resulting in a rapid deployment supported by the successful partnership with AISCI Ident.

Data Capture with Speed and Accuracy

Engbers is currently working with 60 MT90 Orca Pro mobile barcode scanners in its new logistics center, originally located at its ERP system's front end. The company is also using Newland EMEA's free MDM, Ndevor, to easily manage the devices from one location.

Thanks to AISICI Ident and Newland AIDC EMEA, Engbers has been able to increase efficiency while saving time, man-hours and costs. It is a scalable solution that allows companies to quickly and accurately capture data for order picking, inventory management and more. It also provides real-time data for business operations and processes.
